Full Acoustic® Divider Curtain
Full Acoustic® Roll‑Up is engineered to deliver acoustic reduction up to 33 dB (model dependent) when detailed with wall‑to‑wall panels and perimeter closures. Two continuous vinyl panels form a positive floor seal and store compactly to approximately 610 mm (24 in) below the structure, maintaining a clean profile in the raised position.
Challenge
Provide an acoustic roll‑up divider that is compact, reliable, cost effective and easy to operate in daily institutional use.
Solution
Two continuous, independent vinyl panels form a positive floor seal and roll compactly near the structure. A central extruded aluminum drive element and guided lift maintain flat, even rolls. Valences and alcoves complete the perimeter closure to reduce reduce flanking sound transfer between spaces .
Product Specs
The Curtain
The curtain comprises two continuous, independent vinyl panels that meet the floor to form a positive sound seal. A continuous tie at mid‑height isolates the central aluminum extrusion to limit sound transmission. It stores to approximately 610 mm (24 in) below overhead—more compact than fold‑up double‑wall designs with similar sound transmission—and is supplied with valences and alcoves where perimeter closure is required for safety and acoustic performance. For rated performance and safety, this full-height system must extend wall to wall.
The Hardware
A tubular motor is installed at one end of a custom 114 mm (4.5 in) aluminum extrusion at mid‑height. The motor is thermally protected and includes an electric brake, planetary gear set, and limit switches; control is by electric contactors operated with a spring‑loaded key switch. The roll‑up design reduces stress points so the curtain remains flat; hardware is concealed in the raised position.
The Operation
When engaged, the center aluminum extrusion rotates, winding the lower portion of the curtain panels as it rolls itself up the upper portion. The torque reaction is transmitted via a carriage contained in a flexible track mechanism mounted in line with the curtain from mid‑height to overhead. The curtain rolls flat with no highly stressed areas, and the operation is intended to be quiet. Operation is by a spring‑loaded key switch. Some curtains may require a synchronized secondary motor depending on size.
Material Properties
Composition: two full‑height vinyl panels meeting the floor must be wall to wall to form a positive seal
Vinyl: 1.1 kg/m² (32 oz/yd²) vinyl‑coated polyester; resistant to staph, rot, and mildew
Compliance: Materials meet or exceed NFPA 701, CAN/ULC S109, and ASTM E84; flame‑resistance/smoke labels are attached to two edges of the curtain near floor level.
Top edge: pocket sized for a 40.6 mm (1.6 in) pipe for direct structure attachment
Mid height: a 4.74 mm (3/16 in) cable is sewn into the vinyl to seat the panels in the groove of the drive tube
Roll height: stores to approximately 610 mm (24 in) below structure
Bottom edge: features a dual-pocket design: one pocket sized to fit a 32 mm (1-1/4 in) tube, and a second empty pocket engineered to form a positive seal against the floor surface for a seamless acoustic seal.
Perimeter: valences and alcoves recommended to reduce flanking sound transfer between spaces
