Acoustic Double Wall® Divider Curtain

Transform one venue into multiple, quieter activity zones with the QUED® Acoustic Double Wall® Divider Curtain. This two‑layer vinyl divider curtain is engineered for daily use and acoustic performance—achieving up to 37 dB of reduction (model dependent)—while avoiding the cost, structural load, and slow cycle times associated with operable walls. Matching valences and foam alcoves close the perimeter to reduce flanking noise. QUED® systems are intentionally high‑speed to minimize downtime during changeovers; typical operating speeds across our divider curtain families range from approximately 6–18 m/min (20–60 ft/min).

Challenge

Achieve strong acoustic separation without the cost and structure of operable walls.

Solution

A double‑layer vinyl divider curtain detailed with matching valences and foam alcoves creates a complete acoustic envelope. A central drive with guided pulleys and nylon rollers provides quiet, low‑maintenance motion, and high‑speed operation of approximately 6–18 m/min (20–60 ft/min) minimizes downtime during transitions.

The Curtain

Two continuous vinyl layers fit wall‑to‑wall with a centered lift tube that remains clear of the floor. As the curtain travels, the two layers fold neatly on either side of the lifting mechanism to keep sightlines clean and pathways unobstructed. Valences at the structure line and padded side alcoves (nominal 127 mm × 305 mm (5 in × 12 in)) complete the acoustic envelope, presenting a consistent architectural finish when raised.

The Hardware

A central yo‑yo style drive is coupled directly to the winch. From this drive, cables are guided across the structure by pulley guides that incorporate drop pulley sheaves and vertical/horizontal nylon rollers for quiet, low‑maintenance operation. All hardware components are zinc plated for corrosion resistance and long service life.

The Operation

The drive routes lift cables along the silent hardware with drop points at regular 3048 mm (10 ft) intervals. As the cables raise the bottom tube, cross‑cables at 762 mm (30 in) centres lift the two layers so they hang in uniform folds on either side of the mechanism. In the full‑down position the lifting tube remains approximately 152 mm (6 in) above the floor, while the vinyl rests directly on the surface on both sides to help seal the opening. Operation is by a spring‑loaded key switch; magnetic contactors with overload protection safeguard the drive.

Material Properties

This model is available in 0.81 / 1.1 / 1.4 kg/m² (24 / 32 / 40 oz/yd²) vinyl reinforced with polyester scrim.

Horizontal seams include stainless‑steel grommets at prescribed centres; the facing wall grommets may be linked with 2.4 mm (3/32 in) aircraft cable to stabilize the assembly.

Bottom hems are fitted with stainless‑steel #4 spur grommets at 203 mm (8 in) centres.

Compliance: Materials meet or exceed NFPA 701, CAN/ULC S109, and ASTM E84; flame‑resistance/smoke labels are attached to two edges of the curtain near floor level.
